The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is preparing to send a Verizon capable iPhone 4 model into mass production by the end of this year, and will go on sale “early next year.”
The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.
Yes, we’ve heard many Verizon-iPhone rumors over the years, but this report seems to echo another report we recently heard saying that Apple was going to put a Verizon capable iPhone in production by December.
The Wall Street Journal also reports that Apple is developing a new iPhone model. They are unsure when this model will come to Verizon. Additionally, they claim that it will have a different form factor than any of the iPhone models that are currently available.
Color me shocked. Apple is working on a Verizon iPhone and a next-generation model. Who would have guessed that?
