Barron’s is reporting on research done by Alex Gauna, a JMP analyst, wherein Gauna looked at Apple TV shipments to 20 different Apple retails where stocks are being depleted nearly as soon as they arrive. At this current rate, Gauna believes that the new Apple TV will be selling at 1 Million units per quarter.
Gauna believes Apple TV is selling at a pace at least one quarter to one third that of the iPad, or at least 1 million units a quarter. He says the $99 price point “is resonating with consumers.”
Apple has never revealed Apple TV unit sales ever since it was released in early 2007. However, the new Apple TV ships in “1-2 weeks” which suggests that Apple is ramping up production to meet demand. That said, the demand for the new Apple TV may just be a surge of consumer interest, or it may very well turn out to be a strong selling device for the foreseeable future.
