Sad News – Looks Like No More Future Development for Tweetie for Mac

Tweetie for Mac

Twitter’s Carolyn Penner to Macworld on the beloved Mac app:

We aren’t actively planning Tweetie for Mac 2, but we maintain the app for current users. For example, over the summer we updated the client to use OAuth and improved MagicMouse support. We also made the app available for free.

This is sad news for me, and I’m sure for many other users of Tweetie for Mac, the excellent Mac Twitter client developed by Loren Brichter – who created Tweetie for Mac, which has since been reincarnated as the official Twitter app for iOS. I’ve tried out quite a few Mac Twitter applications over the years, but none has been anywhere near as nice to use as Tweetie for Mac. I know it’s already falling behind on support for some of Twitter’s newer features, but it’s got a great interface and is always a pleasure to use.

I’ll probably look at Seesmic’s latest again soon, as an eventual replacement for Tweetie on my MacBook Pro.  What’s your favorite Twitter application for the Mac?

UPDATE: It looks like Loren Brichter is saying these rumors of Tweetie for Mac being ‘abandoned’ are not true. His words in a tweet were that it is ‘not not happening’. More detail here: http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/19/tweetie-2-mac/
