The latest upgrade to the iLife suite of applications was announced a little earlier today, although it was really only iPhoto, Garageband, and iMovie that received upgrades:
Garageband (which I never use) got some new auto-correction features in the form of Groove Matching (described as spell check for rhythm) and Flex Time (which helps to make quick manual adjustments to specific sections in a song).
iMovie (which I enjoy toying with) received quite a few major upgrades. There are now 15 new major themes to help turn home movies into theatrical movie trailers, one-click effect adding, and more exporting and uploading options (Hello, Vimeo!). Apple also saw fit to add face detection to the video editor, which should make it a bit easier to create the aforementioned theatrical theater.
The iPhoto improvements don’t seem incredibly exciting at first glance, but I’m definitely looking forward to playing with the new full-screen layout, HTML e-mails, and the massively improved Facebook integration, which allows you to view comments, tag people, and even change your profile pic — all from within the app. The least exciting updates for me were the new book and letterpress printing options, but that’s probably because I currently can’t afford to print any extra books or customized cards 🙂
iLife ’11 will come free with new Macs and costs $49 for a single-use license ($79 for a 5-user family license). I do plan on saving up for iLife ’11, and I’ll make sure to post my impressions once I have it installed.
