Pastebot 1.4 for iPhone: now runs for 10 minutes in the background!

Pastebot may be blind, but that doesn’t mean it can’t learn new tricks. Thanks to iOS 4, the devs at Tapbot have been able to turn Pastebot ($3.99) into an app with limited multitasking capability — enough ability to run in the background for 10 minutes, anyway.

I was actually unsure of what to think when I first read that line. After all, 10 minutes doesn’t seem like a very long time and it sounds like a big compromise on paper (alas, Apple won’t let non-music and GPS apps background for more than 10 minutes). Then I thought about how I actually use Pastebot: for quickly transferring a few pictures from my iPhone to my MacBook’s desktop. I usually copy pictures in batches of up to five at a time, but sometimes I’ll forget to add one or two, and I’ll have to run back to Photos, copy pictures x and y, and reload Pastebot to add them. The new multitasking capability allows me to bypass that minor hassle by letting me queue things up in the background.

There are a few other instances where this new multitasking capability could come in handy. Queuing up several links, pictures, or chunks of text from my Mac should be a lot easier now. I also think Pastebot could make an excellent background notepad for Safari for quickly capturing text and links for later usage (and this would be even cooler if Pastebot had Instapaper support).

I have a feeling it will take me a while to really figure this update out, but once I do, Pastebot might become an even more integral part of my workflow.
