Pulse News Mini ($0.99 – review) received a little update to version 1.1 recently, but I have to admit it’s not quite as exciting as I thought it would be. Pulse for iPad hit version 2.0 fairly recently and added a number of amazing new features (including the ability to categorize feeds, I believe) and I thought at least a few of these goodies were coming to the iPhone version.
Unfortunately, this update is mainly about streamlining features that are already there. It’s easier to swipe through items within a feed (just swipe horizontally), find items to fill your Pulse feed with the newly added bazaar, and everything is a little more comfortable when you tilt the iPhone into landscape mode.
However, I still feel that Pulse isn’t quite what it could be on the iPhone. It makes a great light feed reader, but the 20-feed limit and lack of any sort of folders or categories really bogs me down. I also wish there was a way to hide items and feeds that I’ve already read cover to cover (so to speak). I’m guessing that the full Pulse experience on the iPad is amazing, but as far as the iPhone world is concerned, I still think the RSS crown is still resting safely on Reeder’s head.
