Swearch – a Cool iPhone Web App

Swearch web app

It’s been a while since I’ve had the desire to talk about a cool web app for the iPhone. A long while. It hasn’t happened very much at all since the App Store opening for business two and a bit years ago.

Swearch is a web app that’s worth talking about. It does something simple, but does it very nicely – on par with or better than any native app I can think of. It gives you an easy and ultra-basic UI for searching Google, Twitter, Wikipedia, and Flickr – all without leaving Mobile Safari. Its signature feature right now is its card-like interface for switching between search engines – with just a swipe allowing you to move between them (and very smoothly).

Here’s a few more screencaps of the app in action, including the first one showing it mid-swipe between Twitter and Wikipedia search pages:

It’s even got a great looking home screen icon as well …

The app is only at version 1.0.2, so naturally it has some areas that may need a little polishing – for example, it’s not as easy as I’d like to move back to a main search screen once you dive into search results. It requires a number of taps on the back button; it would be lovely to see a menu or link to jump back to the main screen more easily.

Overall though, one heck of a nice web app. And it’s good to be able to say that, good to see there are still devs out there working on cool web apps.
