I’m sort of a weather watcher. Living in the midwestern United States – and near tornado alley – I have been at the mercy of Mother Nature and severe weather many times (icestorms, earthquakes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, snowstorms, etc.). Add car traveling to my work experiences, and I am often wondering what the impending weather forecast will be where I am before I leave, what it’s like where I am going, and what weather I will pass through upon my return.
After the initial splash screen, which displays the loading cities, the WeatherCaster shows a video that represents a summary of the current weather conditions: thunderstorm, windmill, sunny, dark clear skies and a full moon (whether a full moon or not), etc. These videos are just damn cool to witness and show off to others on the iPad’s screen.
Weather forecasting is the primary reason to own a weather app, and Moxier’s WeatherCaster does a great job at displaying these on top of the video (whether in landscape or portrait mode):
- the upper left shows the current location, time, and date;
- the lower portion of the screen shows the current weather features in
- temperature
- conditions
- windspeed with directional arrow (GPS based)
- humidity
- dew point
- barametric pressure
- visibility
- UV index
- an alternating 24-hour or 7-day forecast
The upper right has three unobtrusive buttons. The first is a three-hour detailed forecast; the second links to traffic cameras in up to 39,000 cities worldwide; the third is the settings menu where an unlimited number of cities can be added. To find the conditions at these other cities, simply swipe left or right on the main screen.
I would post captured photos, but they wouldn’t do justice to the feel of the video movement playing on the screen (especially during a thunderstorm)! Moxier WeatherCaster is available in the App Store for the paltry price of $0.99. Grab your copy now to show off your iPad.
