Today’s special treat comes to us in the form of a digitally re-mastered editions of the RemoveBackground and Remove Background SBSettings extensions that work on iOS 4.1. Remove Background SBSettings is basically a kill switch that sits inside of SBSettings, allowing you to nuke all running processes and free up all of your RAM within seconds. It’s a lot faster than using the SBSettings Processes tab and tapping on “Free Memory”, and it’s definitely a heck of a lot faster than a respring.
However, you don’t always want to nuke all my running processes, and that’s why Remove Background is useful, since it allows you to set exceptions (I make sure the iPod, Mail, Safari, and Simplenote apps are always running).
All of this functionality was lost during my upgrade to iOS 4.1 a week or two ago, but both extensions are back in working order now. You can find them both on Cydia for free.
