Garmin considering smart phone apps?

There are reports that, after two unsuccessful attempts to throw its hat into the mobile phone ring, Garmin may finally attempt to break into the smartphone app arena.  Other GPS device makers have already done so to varying levels of success, including TomTom and Magellan.

Assuming Garming is bowing out of the smartphone business for good – or at least the immediate future – it only makes sense to tap into the not-so-hidden treasure of app store sales.
