I saw the above tweet this morning and my first thought was damn! that was fast. My second was damn! these dudes are getting rich. Of course the natural reaction to huge news like this was to not only retweet but to send a tweet back and congratulate the folks at Rovio on the great sales, and the great little addon for Halloween. I purchased it because I’ve spent hours playing Angry Birds and at 99 cents even if it sucked (which it doesn’t) I was at least contributing to the Angry Birds franchise and hopefully keeping the updates coming.
Well, as you may know clicking on a tweet on the “NEW CRAPPIER” Twitter page brings out a little sidebar thing… and this is what I saw:
Ok, aside from the fact that there wasn’t a single congratulations in there… WTF? WTF is wrong with you Android people? Do you honestly think that the smartest move for Rovio was to “Give it to us DroidHeads”. Didn’t they give you enough by giving you the whole first Angry Birds for free? And BULLSHIT it could have been bigger on Android. Take a look at the marketshare (yes I know its growing):
Does that scream it could have been bigger on Android? Hell no it doesn’t and it sure sure as shit wouldn’t have been bigger on Android since you didn’t even pay for the first dammed one. Yes, Angry Birds had incredible download rates on the first day and for a few days afterwards – but we’re talking about an extremely good game and its absolutely free for you. The app store invented the “this should be free” review attitude but even our cheap bastards are paying for the game and happy about it. Rovio made $700,000 the first 6 days with Angry Birds Halloween on the iPhone. How much do you really think they would have made giving it away for free to Android?
And kiss my ass you “better get christmas first”. You better get jack first until you start paying for the game. Tell you what – everyone on Android who downloaded the game for free – send Rovio a buck over PayPal. When that’s been done, and there’s more Angry Birds customers on Android than iPhone… THEN you should get the (unconfirmed/not even mentioned) Christmas version first.
WTF? When did this become such a culture of entitlement? You got the shit for free. And then you expect to be treated like you paid for first class?! Give me a dammed break. Please note: I’m not saying all Android users are like this. But the small sample of tweets I saw wasn’t promising for the rest of the users. And yes, I know there are some cheap assed iPhone users who are the same way. I get it. We’re all just as guilty.
Anyway, my original post was going to be a congratulatory post to the folks at Rovio for a great first week of Angry Birds Halloween, and then a very heavy recommendation to go buy the game because true to Angry Birds form its excellent. But I got sidetracked by the gimme gimme gimme generation.
I’ll be happy to debate this post in the iSource Forums.
