Wordfast for iPhone provides lightning fast automated translations for free

Here’s how this works: you type a word (or a sentence) into Wordfast, press Go, and marvel at the Google-powered translation that appears along the bottom of the screen. You can even take a picture of the text you’d like translated, although you still have to make sure to specify the source and output language. On the whole, however, you’re probably best sticking to manual input, since the OCR can tend to create some funky results.

Translations tend to turn up instantaneously over wi-fi, but can take two or three seconds when on 3G. Wordfast is currently free on the App Store and doesn’t feature any ads at the moment, so it’s absolutely worth a download, even if you don’t have an immediate use for it. I’m wondering why it’s filed under the “Entertainment” category of the App Store, though…
