PlainText (free; $4.99 to get rid of the ads) just keeps getting better and better. It’s got an ultra clean interface, automatic Dropbox syncing, handles hundreds of text files with ease, and it now has a very slick word count built right into the text selection dialogue. To count the words on your screen simply highlight as much text as you’d like counted and look to the Word Count box that will appear to the right of the Paste button.
Very, very cool feature.
