Ah yes, there is indeed an app for just about everything in the App Store. Including one that looks ideal for murdering your iPhone with a golf club – iSwingSpeed. Here are the simple instructions for using the app:
1. Place the iPhone flat on the ground at a distance of 27″ or 6 iphone lengths behind the ball in the swing path of the club.
2. Point mic of iPhone towards golf ball.
3. Swing golf club and strike ball.
4. Read speed. Repeat step 3
Let’s just pull out the one bit that just keeps repeating in my head, over and over since seeing the promo email for this app:
in the swing path of the club
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been around a lot of golfers (myself included) whose swing path does not always (or even often) go exactly according to plan. If this app gets popular, we can expect to see some iPhones flying into the rough with a bit of a draw from errant iron shots. Hopefully someone can work out just the right way to tie an iPhone to a baseball so we can see iPitchSpeed by the time Spring Training starts.
