Apple has announced at NAB 2011, a new version of the company’s flagship pro video editing software- Final Cut Pro X.
This new Final Cut Pro X is built from the ground up for 64-bit, scales from a MacBook to a Mac Pro with Core animation, resolution independent playback, Grand Central Dispatch support for faster performance, background rendering, edit while importing video, and a myriad of other major new features.
From the few images leaked from the event, it appears that Final Cut Pro X has a user interface very similar to that of iMove for the Mac and iPad.
The new Final Cut Pro X will ship in June on the Mac App Store, and will only cost $299. Neither Final Cut Express, or the rest of the Final Cut Studio package were mentioned at the event. So, who knows what’s next for those products.
Holy crap, just $299! I might have to buy it. This looks like a serious overhaul that was long overdue, considering this App is used by a large portion of Hollywood to edit movies. 64-bit, really? That should have been built in three years ago.
I also have to point out the obvious. This is a really odd time for Apple to introduce this. No, I’m not talking in relation to a calendar, but rather to a clock. 10PM Eastern is not normal business hours. With that said, Apple is doing this to pander to the crowd that will be the biggest buyer of the software. For the rest of the country, it’s just odd.
Anyway, we’ll report further as more information becomes available.
