Quick tip: turn off iBooks auto-hyphenation to speed things up!

Remember that iBooks 1.2 update that came out late last year?

Well, one major part of that update was the addition of an auto-hyphenation feature that would help cram more words onto a single page, resulting in fewer overall pages to flip through. It’s a great idea, but I’ve found that it has literally doubled the time it takes me to switch orientations within the app. A 1300-page eBook on my iPhone 3GS took 10 seconds to switch from portrait to landscape, but now takes only five seconds with auto-hyphenation turned off.

So if you’ve been experiencing longer-than-normal iBooks load times, especially with large novels, you might want to give that little switch off.
