Dave Ohara of GreenM3’s (via MacRumors) is reporting that Apple has hired a former manager at Microsoft’s data center group by the name of Kevin Timmons who had spent ten years at GeoCities/Yahoo and another two a Microsoft.
The report pointed states that Timmons will not be stepping into the role vacated by Oliver Sanche, who died late last year of a heart attack, while being in charge of Apple’s data center operations. In short, Timmons role at Apple isn’t currently known. With no black and white answer, there comes speculation. All Things Digital claims that Timmons may be in charge of deploying Apple’s rumored forthcoming MobileMe overhaul.
Yeah, here it goes. Our favorite answer- the North Carolina Data Center. Timmons may very well be poised to take charge of data center. It would after all, fit into his area of expertise. Of course, this data center’s uses have been speculated upon ranging from powering a new MobileMe, to storing users’ iTunes content, to streaming iTunes content to internet-connected devices. Apparently this data center will answer all the world’s problems.
Regardless, it seems that Apple is making a major push in the data center arena.
