Apple Still Having Component Supply Problems A Month After Japan Quake

DigiTimes is reporting that Apple is still having trouble securing component supplies over a month after twin disaster in Japan. Up until the tragic event, Apple had used Japan’s Hirose Electric for their iPad 2 connectors, but has since had to shift production to Cvilux, a Taiwanese company. The main reason for the shift, is Japan’s current power problems, and enforced brownout policy. Of course, little to no electricity makes it difficult to produce anything, let alone electronics.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Shortly after the tragedy struck Japan, reports emerged that Apple could run into supply troubles. Another report soon followed claiming that Apple was throwing money at suppliers in an attempt to secure component shipments.

At any rate, Japan is still a mess, and I’m surprised we haven’t felt the repercussions in more than just Apple products.
