Estimates Say More than 2 Million Apple TVs Sold

Apple Insider reports today that at least one analyst estimates that more than two million units of Apple TV (second gen) have been sold since its release late last year.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities revealed the results of his survey of Apple suppliers on Tuesday. The numbers show that sales of the Apple TV have held relatively steady since the device first went on sale last October.
Sales of the streaming-centric iOS-powered Apple TV topped 1 million just before Christmas of last year, and within three months of its launch. That pace showed strong sales had continued after a breakout start of250,000 units in its first six weeks.

The same analyst says Apple sold over 800,000 Apple TVs in the second quarter of their fiscal 2011 (Jan-March).

I don’t know any good reference / comparison points for Apple TV 2 sales, but these numbers sound relatively impressive. It will be interesting to see if we get some concrete numbers for Apple TV in Apple’s quarterly results call later today.

I’m enjoying the heck out of my Apple TV – especially now that a decent number of apps are starting to support AirPlay video and we’ve got iPad 2 mirroring via the new HDMI cable.
