Here’s a quick bit of news that the folks at Macgasm sent over: apparently, a hospital in Ottawa, which also happens to be called The Ottawa Hospital, has ordered 1800 iPads for use by physicians, resident physicians, and pharmacists this July as part of a plan to increase efficiency and decrease paper use. The hope is that these new fangled tablet things will help cut down on discrepancies due to bad handwriting, and also help process and inform patients better when used in tandem with specialized apps for displaying patient records.
It certainly sounds like an interesting and admirable move, and I’d also be curious to see what actual effects the iPad will have on efficiency after a few months. I’m also wondering whether they can get all 1800 iPads in white…or will some doctors have to use iPads that clash with their coats?
