Shocker: CutYourSim Permanent iPhone Unlock Service Discontinued

CutyourSIM

Who woulda thunk it? The no-jailbreak-required permanent iPhone unlock service from CutYourSim that we posted on a couple weeks back has been discontinued. This is the service that was said to be based on unauthorized access to an IMEI database belonging to either Apple or a carrier – which doesn’t exactly sound like a solid foundation for a long existence.

In a blog post a few days ago, CutYourSim announced the service will not be continuing and refunds will be issued to customers who did not already receive their unlocks:

Today we have decided to discontinue the service we offered for remotely unlocking any iPhone.  For the customers who already paid, and received their unlocks a few days ago, they do not need to do anything because they made the cutoff for our service.  All customers who paid via PayPal or Google Checkout will be refunded.

Did any of you try out this service before the shutdown?
