Apple Now More Profitable than Microsoft

microsoft-logo.jpgFirst Apple surpassed Microsoft in market capitalization last May, and has a market cap more than $100 billion greater than Microsoft’s. Then, two quarters ago, Apple brought in more quarterly revenue than Microsoft in more than a decade. Now, Apple has beat Microsoft in quarterly profit.

Microsoft announced today that they made $5.23 billion in quarterly profit for fiscal Q3 of 2011. Apple just last week announced profit of $5.99 billion for fiscal Q2 of 2011. All of this taking place in the first calendar quarter of this year.

Times change. Microsoft still dominates an older, stabler, market. That said, Microsoft still hasn’t made any real headway in areas such as mobile phones, and tablet computers. They need to get on that, to stay relevant.
