If you happen to be holding your ipad with primary grip on the smart cover in its fancy triangle configuration, the ipad may just launch itself and leave you holding the cover and nothing else. Especially since the smooth back is so smooth and curvy that it’s a bit slippery. (Voice of experience, unfortunately.) The magnets are simply not strong enough. I’m going to find a cover that fits more like a folio to securely encase my iPad2 and provide a good grip – somewhat similar to Apple’s case for the original iPad. Suggestions welcome.

that’s the first bit of feedback I’ve ever seen that mentions oil. I haven’t noticed any oil on the hinge of my smart cover. Perhaps yours was defective?

The main reason I took it back though was I assume was the oil for the hinges would leak and even though was a small amount would stain my shirt sleeves and also leave stain marks om my IPad.

Just too much dirt sticks to it when touching the desk/table. I’ve also that typing on it with it propped hurts my wrists, so i have to use it flat.

Good observation. I’m just used to it now, so I regularly wipe it off if I know the table might have been dirty. That part of the design is definitely a little silly, though, given how much of a dust magnet the inner lining is.

They should have made it so that when you fold it to use a prop the side touching the dust covered surface of the coffee table is not the side that will loving rub against your screen. You can use it the other way around but the magnets do not hold as well and it tends to collapse.
