IDC, a research company, has released numbers for Q1 2011, and has found that Apple now holds 5% of the global, mobile phone market. This is the first time for Apple to hit this mark, while also regaining fourth place over ZTE.

Apple grabbed some 3.2% of the market year-over-year, which isn’t surprising considering that their growth clocking in at 114.9% over the same timeframe. It’s also worth remembering the humble days when Apple first introduced the iPhone, and set the goal of 1% of the market by the end of 2008.

Throw this news on top of findings by Strategy Analytics, who found Apple held 5.3% of the total mobile phone market, and then with a report from late last week that claimed Apple holds 14% of the total mobile phone market in the U.S., and you begin to see a larger image. Apple is in great shape.
