Light Leakage from LG Displays Reported Reason for iPad Display Shortage

box_20110302.pngDigiTimes is reporting that light leakage from displays provided by LG, was one of the reasons for iPad supply issues, and thus, lower-than-expected shipments, during the previous fiscal quarter. The problem has reportedly been resolved, and production is ramping back up.
Here’s an excerpt:

LGD was forced to reduce its shipments in the first quarter due to light leakage problem for panels produced at its 6G production lines. The company reportedly has fixed the problem and will resume shipment momentum to Apple in the second quarter, said the sources.

The only reason anyone is reporting on this further, is due to Apple’s lower-than-expected iPad shipments for the first quarter of this year. Apple only shipped 4.69 million units. Plus, other component manufacturing partners had also reported problems with production in their own right.
