I’m calling Apple support now to report a bug in the software. When I put the phonetic pronunciation for last name on a contact the system is somehow re-alphabetizing the contacts NOW using the phonetic field instead of the actual spelling. For example: if a contact is Hispanic and the last name is Unez and you put in “oonez” so the phone recognizes the double oo instead of a long vowel for “U” in English, the contact is immediately thrown into the “O’s” in alphabetical listing.
It sure is a great idea for voice-based calling, but an annoying glitch as the contact software shoud ALWAYS use the LAST NAME field for alphabetizing.

So my firstname ends with an ‘eek’ sound. I never knew that. Explaining it to my dog right now, asking him to pronounce it correctly in future.
