The iPad Needs a Better Photo Browser

One of the things that the iPad has prompted me to do is organize all of my photos so that I can actually navigate them. That has been a bit of a challenge, since there were close to 10,000 of them when I started out. It took me two days, but I cleared out of a lot of crap, labeled every single album and, after a three hour syncing process, I now have 7000 photos sitting on the iPad.

The only problem I have now is that it’s still difficult to scroll through a few hundred albums using the default Photos app. Despite all of the trouble I took to label folders, all they’ll do is show up in chronological order. There is no photo search, no photo tagging, and I simply can’t seem to find any apps that will let me search my local albums. Most photo apps manage Flickr and Facebook photos or edit them by adding 10,000 filters, but nothing offers to help me look through what’s actually on my iPad right now.

It would be lovely to simply have a photo browser to let me know things like how many pictures are in the album I’m about to open, provide a quick text search field for helping me find events such as birthdays, and a working scrollbar that I can actually drag up and down the screen to save me from having to flick (and flick and flick) to reach the bottom of the albums list.
