As we’ve reported before, Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, is looking to invest some $12 billion in Brazil, building new plants, and infrastructure as to avoid the heavy import taxes imposed by that country. When the story broke, Foxconn was planning on starting production in November, they are now planning to move that date up to sometime in July.
Here’s a quote from the Reuters report:
Foxconn has moved up its desired start date for assembling iPads in Brazil to July from November, seeking to tap massive demand for the device in Brazil’s booming consumer market, according to newspapers Estado de S.Paulo and Folha de S.Paulo. Their reports quoted government officials.
Foxconn is still trying to wring everything they can out of it. Specifically, looking for more incentives to build (read: tax breaks) in that country.
To me even with $12 Billion (which if they’re willing to spend that on infrastructure, there is no telling what they stand to earn), a July time frame is very ambitious, from what I’m assuming is a cold start.
