PhotoForge2 Launching May 19, Treating Current Users Right

PhotForge2

PhotoForge2 – the new version of the excellent iOS image editing app – is going to be released this Thursday, May 19th. Thomas posted last week on the preview trailer for PhotoForge2, which he said looks incredible, and I have to say I absolutely agree. This new version of PhotoForge is going to bring some incredible new features, including support for layers.

It’s great news that this app will be in the App Store this week. There’s also some very good news for users of the current PhotoForge app. Although App Store policy prohibits upgrades to a new app, the developers have done the best they can to offer a good deal for their existing users. Here’s more detail on that:

The app store does not provide an easy way for developers to allow their users to upgrade to a new app.  What we at GhostBird Software have decided to do is provide PhotoForge2 at the lowest price available in the app store for the entirety of launch day.  What does that mean?  PhotoForge2 will be on sale for $0.99 USD May 19, 2011, one day only.  What we do ask is that everyone help get the word out to as many PhotoForge users as possible as this upgrade period will only be available for 24 hours.

PhotoForge2 will normally sell for $4.99, but it will be on sale after the initial 4 hour upgrade period for $2.99 for the rest of May. I think it’s extremely admirable that GhostBird Software, the app’s developers, are trying their best to look after current users and offer them the special 99 cents rate on launch day.

If you’re current PhotoForge user, or just someone who wants to get what looks like a spectacular new app at a great one-off price, then be sure to hit the App Store on Thursday and grab this.

PhotoForge2 will be a universal app, designed to run on iPhone, iPad, and any iOS device that supports iOS 4.2 or greater. One bit of bad news on this front – native iPad support won’t be available on release, though it is said to be coming very soon.
