TUAW is reporting that Samsung will be demonstrating the first 2560×1600 10.1-inch LCDs this week at the SID Display Week 2011 International Symposium.
This of course, is the same size display as used in the iPad, but with a resolution of 300dip, which is far above the current screens used on the iPad 2.
So how is this in any way related to Apple? It’s mostly speculation at this point, but the existence of such high resolution displays proves that Apple could implement them in their own devices. Will these be the screens used in the next-generation iPad? Not necessarily, but it proves that the industry is headed in that direction. Plus, there has been speculation, and some evidence that Apple will introduce a “Retina Display” iPad sometime in the not-to-distant future.
These new screens are expected to make their way into tablets by the end of this year.
UPDATE: As one of our readers pointed out in the comments, the iPad utilizes a 9.7-inch screen, and not a 10.1-inch screen as I reported. My mistake.
