In another report from Digitimes, they claim that Apple is already cranking down orders for the iPhone 4, and will begin manufacturing the next-generation iPhone in August, for a planned launch in September. Of course, this device is expected to utilize the same A5 processor found in the iPad 2, have an 8-Megapixel camera, retain mostly the same form-factor as the current iPhone 4.

Depending on who’s doing the reporting, the wait for an LTE iPhone is due to one of two things: Network maturity and mass production of LTE chipsets. I say there is a third, just as important reason for the delay, that few are talking about- battery life. LTE “4G” is a battery hog, and Apple would rather fall behind in network speeds than as to compromise battery life. At least that’s the way I see it.

UPDATE: I fixed the date in the headline. Jesus.
