MPlayerX is, according to the very enthusiastic post over at Lifehacker, the love child of VLC and QuickTime X. In other words, it has the super powered codec support of VLC (which lets you play basically any video ever recorded), but features the more elegant interface of QuickTime. Interesting.
I just happen to have a few movies that need watching and intend to use them to, err, investigate this app a little further. I’ll make sure to report back with impressions, but in the mean time, you can pick up MPlayerX on the Mac App Store or from MPlayerX.org.
(Incidentally, if it happens that you just really want to use QuickTime X for all of your videos, don’t forget that the free Perian utility turns QT into the swiss army knife of video players — capable of playing basically everything)
