I tried the Nike Training Club app a few days ago and am still reeling from the experience. The app is filled with all sorts of 30 and 45-minute training regimens that you can complete with or without extra equipment.
I thought I’d give the easiest workout a shot and chose a 30-minute Get Toned program on Beginner level (4-5 workouts a month). I wasn’t initially sure of what each of the 1-2 mini exercises entailed, but Nike did a great job of including instructional videos of people far more attractive than me completing them with finesse, so I was never lost for very long. In the end I managed to soldier on for about 24 minutes, jogging, kicking, and pushing up to Nike countdowns and a constant stream of j-pop. I would have loved to have completed the last six minutes of the program, but I also wanted to keep the contents of my stomach inside me, rather than on the floor.
As tough as the workout was, it was also a lot of fun to be able to sweat up a storm so quickly and without any extra equipment. Despite the fact that I couldn’t move my legs for two days after the first workout (not an exaggeration), I do plan on keeping the Nike Training app around and giving it another shot. It’s a free training app with great intro videos, great exercise intervals and variety, and great support for your own music soundtrack to keep you pumped. Definitely worth a look on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
