An interesting report has surfaced from TechnoBuffalo wherein details are revealed of Verizon’s testing of the iPhone 4 prior to it’s launch on that network. Specifically, the report notes that only a handful of Verizon employees were given iPhone 4 test units, and only two weeks prior to the launch at that.
The employees using these test devices were required to sign a nondisclosure agreement, something unusual for most hardware companies, but not Apple. Verizon testers also were not allowed to call the device by name, but rather the codename “Acme”.
Apple also required that employees testing the device manually check in on their devices every twelve hours. They would be given a PIN code to text to a dedicated phone number. If the PIN code wasn’t received in time, the phone would be remotely bricked.
Lastly, as with Apple’s own employees, Verizon workers, other than the one’s working closely on the project, were kept in the dark about both the device and the launch plans.
