ConvertIt is a convenient utility that allows you to “convert” (create different file format copies of) images that you drag onto the menu bar icon. There are eight output options for images and a dialogue to select the destination folder, and the whole package is just $0.99 on the Mac App Store.
I was initially tempted to purchase ConvertIt because of the number of times I’ll have to batch convert .PNG screenshots from the iPad into .JPEG, but was then reminded that I could use Automator to do the same thing. So now I have an OS X Service that uses “Get Selected Finder Items” and “Change Type of Images” to quickly convert any number of images within Finder to .JPEG in two clicks.
The Automator tip isn’t meant to be a knock against ConvertIt, though — I just have too many menu bar apps running and don’t want any more.
