Apple Already Reportedly Filming Ad for iPhone 5
A casting call popped up and then disappeared on Craigslist looking for actors for an upcoming iPhone 5 commercial. The listing was looking for male and female actors, from a variety of ages and ethnicities. Even though the casting call was for the L.A. area, the payment was listed in British Pound Sterling.
From here, this could be written off as a hoax, but a similar ad was posted last month in the New York area for much the same purpose, except the iPhone 5 was not explicitly mentioned. Merely “Apple iPhone”.
Apple Possibly Opening Retail Store in Sarasota, Florida
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune is reporting that the owner of the Westfield Southgate mall is trying to get an Apple Store installed in his/her establishment. The owner conducted a survey, and it showed that they wanted an Apple store more than any other retail store. For Sarasota residents, the closest Apple stores are 55-miles away in Tampa.
Google Now Pushing for NFC with Google Wallet Initiative.
Google has unveiled Google Wallet, an initiative pushing for NFC in mobile devices. NFC or Near-Field Communication, which would allow for users, for instance, to wave their device over a NFC-enabled credit card payment device, to make a payment. Tying this into Apple, it had been rumored that Apple would be introducing NFC to a future iPhone. With two companies, Apple and Google, pushing for the adoption of the standard, it might just catch on.
Intel Showing Interest In Manufacturing Other Company’s Chips
Intel executives have shown interest in manufacturing custom ships for companies like Apple. Essentially they would be acting as a foundry for non-Intel designed chips. This means Apple could, if this comes to fruition, manufacture Apple’s custom ARM-based chips they use in their iOS products.
