Apple To Announce This Year’s Back-to-School Promotion At WWDC, iPads Discounts Included?

With some recent reports claiming that Apple would launch their annual back-to-school promotion last week, which obviously didn’t happen. A new report has surfaced claiming that Apple may wait until next week, during the company’s World Wide Developers Conference, to announce this year’s promotion.

The report also claims that iPads, for the first time, could see a rebate offer similar to the ones that Apple has offered for iPod touches over the past few years, effectively amounting to a free iPod touch with the purchase of a new Mac for college. Instead of a full $229, as offered with the iPod touch, the iPad would receive a $200 discount if purchased at the same time as the Mac.

Apple Asking Australian Journalists to Attend WWDC Keynote

Further proving that Apple is up to something big, that doesn’t necessarily incorporate an hardware announcement, Apple is also asking Australian Journalists to attend this year’s World Wide Developers Conference. Apple reportedly asked UK journalists to attend the conference as well.

This report also suggests that the keynote will be held on June 6th, the first day of the week long conference. This is something that Apple, oddly hasn’t announced yet.

Lodsys Now going After Android Developers As Well

After Apple announced that they would back their developers from the attacks made by the patent trolls at Lodsys, it seems that the firm has made a shift, and is now targeting Android developers as well. The CEO of one of the larger indie developers originally hit, Villain, has released his email and asks all developers under attack by Lodsys to contact him, so that they can come together to fight Lodsys off.

iOS 5 to Continue to Use Google Maps?

9to5Google is reporting that Apple will continue to use Google’s mapping services in iOS 5, noting that Apple couldn’t move to their own in-house solutions yet due to the project not being complete. Of course, there have been a number of indicators over the past few years that Apple is seeking to move away from Google’s service, especially Apple’s purchase of companies like Placebase.
