Apple Issues Security Fix for “Mac Defender” Malware Threat

Software_Update_icon.pngIn a minor software update entitled Security Update 2011-003 (Snow Leopard) Apple has addressed the “Mac Defender” malware threat. This same update will also apparently be included in the Mac OS X 10.6.8 update, which is still in developer testing.

This is one of Apple’s fastest response times for a security threat. Waiting only about a week for after the story broke to issues a response. They then promised to address the issue with a software update to remove the malware. In the meantime, Apple also issued a guide to help the more savvy users remove the malware themselves.
