comScore has released the numbers from a survey they conducted in April regarding mobile phone usage in the U.S. They found that Apple’s iPhone has now overtaken RIM’s Blackberry, although barely, and is now in second place only to Android. The exact market share is Android at 36.4%, iOS at 26%, and RIM at 25.7%. Remember, these surveys never account for iPod touch numbers, because, well, that just wouldn’t be fair.

If you look at these numbers in terms of manufacturing Apple is in fourth-place with 8.3%. RIM is in fifth with 8.2%, Motorola in third with 15.6%, LG in second with 20.9%, and Samsung in first with 24.5%.

comScore surveyed over 30,000 mobile phone subscribers, taking a look at the user base, instead of surveying recent purchases as some other surveys do. Besides, Apple had passed up RIM in sales late last year, but RIM installed base held Apple’s total lead over them, off for the next following months.
