Report Claims that A New Time Capsule Will be the Hub for iCloud Syncing, Not Apple’s Servers

timecap.jpgCult of Mac is reporting that they received information claiming that the rumored, new Time Capsule backup device, will be used as the hub for iCloud data syncing, an not on Apple’s servers as had previously been rumored. That means all of a users’ purchased content is stored on a Time Capsule located on a local network.

The report also notes that this feature is complete, and is ready to be rolled out in Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5, although no such hint of a similar functionality has been found in the current developer seeds of Mac OS X Lion. One also must ask how this would tie into Apple’s iCloud music offerings that we’ve been hearing so much about, which sounds like a true, server-based solution for content storage and streaming.

Storing content on a dedicated device such as a Time Capsule, would eleviate much of the heartaches currently attributed to syncing. The device could always be on, and there would no longer be a need to set up a dedicated computer to serve content.

Anyway, Apple CEO Steve Jobs is slated to announce iCloud, along with Mac OS X Lion, and iOS 5, to developers tomorrow at their World Wide Developers Conference. The keynote will start at 10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern.
