OS X Lion Brings Gestures, Mission Control, Full Screen Apps (and Makes Macs Feel More Like Clamshell iPads)

OS X Lion, with its new full-screen apps, disappearing scrollbars, and extra emphasis on multi-touch gestures, really has learned quite a lot from iOS. This is definitely a very interesting step in the evolution of OS X, since it brings some of the killer single-app focus from the smaller iPad and iPhone screens to Macs everywhere.

Scrollbars simply aren’t needed in most situations if you’ve got a multi-touch trackpad (and any mouse with a scrollwheel), so the fact that Lion will hide scrollbars until they’re activated seems like a fantastic idea. It should also go a long way towards really immersing users in whatever app is on-screen at the time.

Then there’s the newly announced Mission Control, touted as “the best feature of Lion” (according to MacRumors), which seems like a powered up version of ExposĂ© and Spaces. Activated with a simple three-finger gesture, Mission Control seems like it will be the way to navigate between apps in Lion.

The line between the iPad and MacBook is blurring just a little more.
