Apple Releases First Developer Build of iOS 5

Coming as a surprise to no one, Apple has seeded the first developer release of iOS 5, to the registered developers. Let the testing begin.

Apple Releases Safari 5.1 Developer Preview

Even though most of Apple’s announcements yesterday were devoid of any mention of Safari, the company has released a developer build of Safari 5.1. The build includes full-screen support, media caching with HTML5, and graphics acceleration on Windows. A separate version of Safari, version 5.0.6, is also available for Leopard machines.

The MobileMe-to-iCloud Transition

Apple has issued a support document, wherein they outline the transition from MobileMe to iCloud. No new subscriptions to MobileMe are being taken, but if you have a subscription, you service has been extended to June 30th of 2012 at no extra charge. After that, the service will cease to exist. When iCloud does arrive, MobileMe users will be able to keep their @me.com addresses, and migrate their mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks to the new service.

OmniVision to Make 90% of 8MP Camera Sensors for Next-Generation iPhone

DigiTimes is reporting that OmniVision will be supplying some 90% of the 8MP camera sensors for the next-generation iPhone, which of course, is rumored to be equipped with just such a camera. Good to know.

Financial Times Won’t Pay Apple For iBooks, Opts for Web App Instead

Long story short, Financial Times is refusing to pay Apple’s 30% cut of media sales on the iBook store, so they’ve opted to go with a web app, which Apple can’t control. We’ll see how it works out for them.
