Amen to That: MG Siegler’s Take on Doing It First vs. Doing It Right

I just love this line from MG Siegler at his parislemon blog, in response to talk of Windows Live (of all things!) doing now what iCloud will do when it’s released, and other expected ‘we did it first’ claims about Apple’s new iOS 5 and iCloud.

These guys don’t seem to realize one thing: no one gives a shit who did something first. It’s all about who did it right. iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc.

That sums up a big part of Apple’s recent success perfectly for me. They were not first with a portable media player device, but did it better than anyone else. They were far from first to do a smartphone, but they did it better and smarter than anyone else. They were not first to create a tablet device, but they did one right and better.
