Cool Things: Steve Jobs Presents Plans for Massive New Apple Office to Cupertino City Council

This is good stuff, for several reasons. First off, it’s very cool to see that Steve Jobs is well enough and interested enough to make this presentation to Cupertino’s city council just a day after leading the WWDC keynote event for Apple.

It’s also a great example of how Apple always swings for the fences – even when it’s ‘just’ plans for a new office. In this case a new office with a striking looking, hollow circle design that will house 12,000 Apple employees. Jobs notes that there’s not a straight piece of glass in the whole building, with its curved shape. He talks about it in glowing terms, just like at so many Apple launch events we’ve seen, and says it’s going to be a place that architecture students will come to visit.

Jobs also highlights the fact that the plans will increase the number of trees and the amount of landscape area substantially in the area the office / campus will occupy.

Maybe the best part is watching how Jobs handles a few dumb questions from some of the city council members. One of the very best bits is when he’s asked about whether Apple will be providing free WiFi (check it out at about the 13:10 mark).
