My Thoughts on iCloud

It’s taken me a week to digest the announcements made on Monday, in regards to iCloud. I’m not just saying this because I’m a fan of Apple’s, but it seems like they’ve finally got syncing figured out. iDisk from the early 2000s was a first step, .Mac was junk, and MobileMe was a disaster. I think they figured it out with iCloud.

Syncing has gotten complicated over the past four or so years. Apple has worked on this in a round about way with iTunes syncing and and file transfers and the like. Now, it will be handle automatically. Which is awesome, and from the little testing I’ve done already with iTunes in the Cloud, it’s awesome.

But what happens when you have more than one person tied into a single Apple ID account- such as a family account for downloading movies. Well, it’s a little more finicky, but Apple has an answer to that too. The point I’ve been making, is that Apple has thought this through. Finally.

When I was using my Gmail account to sync Mail Notes to my devices, there was a lot of duplication and conflicting data. With iCloud doing it, I suspect there won’t be a problem.

I’ve said nothing new here, but I’m just looking forward to the future of computing. Sure, there will be bugs to work out, new problems to arise, but this is the future, and I’m excited.
