iOS Developers Not Afraid of Other Mobile Platforms, Still Not Sluggish on Mac Adoption

Fortune is reporting that Gene Munster, a Piper Jaffray analyst conducted a survey at last week’s World Wide Developers Conference, in which he asked a number of developers where they are focusing their efforts. It turns out 47% of all surveyed stated that they also develop for Android, with another 36% developing for BlackBerry.

More interestingly, of the iOS developers questioned, only 7% were also developing for the Mac. On the flip side of that, 93% of iPhone developers also claim that they develop for the iPad, which shouldn’t come as a surprise for both technical and economic reasons. Lastly, 40% of these developers reported that they believe Android has a higher potential for future growth than iOS.

From where I’m standing, and I could very well be wrong, this isn’t bad news for the Mac or Apple as a whole. It just shows how incredibly unsettled the industry is at the moment. There is a gold rush mentality behind mobile development. Will I be eating my words in a year or so after the dust settles? Likely. Either way, this is an exciting time for computing.
