Johnson came to Apple, from Target, over a decade ago to spearhead the company’s retail initiative, and is credited with much of Apple retail’s success. So successful in fact, that Apple now operates 325 stores worldwide.
JC Penny has since confirmed the announcement, and claims that Johnson, is personally investing $50 million in JC Penny to show confidence in the company he is taking over.
I suspect JC Penny’s board grabbed Johnson, as someone to revamp their retail experience. Just a guess on my part, but I would expect to see changes in JC Penny’s retail stores in the coming months as Johnson takes over.
