iCloud to Mirror Some of MobileMe’s Online Functionality

Even a week after the WWDC keynote, there is still some confusion as to how Apple will ween MobileMe users off of the old service and onto iCloud when MobileMe reaches its scheduled end of life on June 30, 2012. Specifically, some are worried about the web app functionality found in MobileMe, which allows users to conduct tasks regardless of what platform they are on. For a while it seemed that these web apps were going away, but recent evidence suggests otherwise.

MacRumors is reporting that one of their readers, who is a MobileMe subscriber, sent themselves a calendar invite, and later found it tied in with the iCloud.com domain. The page it was located on also had iCloud branding, while looking identical to the current MobileMe invites page. This suggests that Apple, at least for the time being, is mirroring MobileMe functionality for the iCloud service.

If I had to guess, the web apps found in MobileMe will simply transition over to iCloud, and that will be the end of it. Apple will still emphasize the behind-the-scenes magic of the cloud service ahead instead of bragging about the web apps.
