With this shaping up to be one of those stories that won’t die until it actually happens, another report, much like the other recents reports we’ve been hearing, claims that Apple will be launching their annual Back to School promotion tomorrow. There also appears to be a change this year. Instead of offering a free iPod as they have in years past, with the purchase of a Mac on the same receipt, this year they will be offering a $100 iTunes gift cards instead.
For the last several years, Apple’s offer for a free iPod specifically mentioned the low-end $229 iPod touch model. This offer could be traded around with a $229 credit going toward other iPod models. This year however, does not appear to be the case. Instead, they’re giving you $100 in iTunes credit. Take it or leave it.
