iOS Gamers: Make Sure You Tie an E-Mail Address to your OpenFeint Account

OpenFeint, one of the cross-platform social gaming networks, has the good sense to perform automatic log-ins on my iPhone 3GS, but not on my iPad. As it turns out, you have to manually tie your OF account to an e-mail address if you want to log in from any of your other devices (e.g. an iPad).

I found this out after struggling for ten minutes to play Kard Combat on my tablet, only to repeatedly fail the login process. OpenFeint kept telling me that I hadn’t registered an e-mail with them, but that seemed preposterous, since my nickname was already taken, and most every online service I’ve ever used has required a password or an e-mail while signing up.

It turns out that OpenFeint is a little different. I’m still not sure of exactly how it works, but the main piece of advice here is to make sure you add an e-mail address and password to your account (see settings) from the device you initially used to sign onto OpenFeint with. Otherwise, you could be locked out of your account when you next switch devices, since there seems to be no way to recover a lost login.
